Shia LaBeouf has been released from police custody following his arrest on Thursday night (26.06.14).

The troubled actor was spotted leaving a New York Police station this morning (27.06.14) after he was escorted from a Broadway theatre in handcuffs for yelling at officers and slapping people's bottoms.

The 28-year-old star was charged with harassment, disorderly conduct and criminal trespassing for allegedly using offensive language and smoking while watching a performance of 'Cabaret', which stars Michelle Williams.

Police were called to Studio 54 theatre at 8:45 pm (EDT) after he refused to listen to security guards when they asked him to leave, before allegedly proceeding to swear at them and physically interfere with them.

New York Police Department spokesperson George Tsourovakas said: ''He was being rather difficult and combative, verbally ... To the point where security guards asked him to please leave the premises and he refused. Police were called and he was detained and arrested.''

The 'Transformers' star had his first hearing in court this morning and is due back on July 24.

Shia - who has sparked fears for his mental health in recent months - has had a bizarre few months in the lead up to his arrest after he stormed out of a 'Nymphomaniac' press conference in Berlin before arriving on the red carpet for the film's German premiere wearing a paper bag on his head that read, ''I am not famous any more.''

He was also forced to apologise for alleged plagiarism and starred in his own silent art installation in Los Angeles.
