Most Hollywood actors and actresses capitalise on the annual Cannes Film festival to further their own careers. Sean Penn, on the other hand is there to throw a benefit party in aid of Haiti, which was devastated by an earthquake in 2010. Talking to Today's Ann Curry (msnbc.com), Penn revealed that he often struggles to contain his anger at some of the international helpers in Haiti.
"Most of the people I'm angry at are usually international volunteers who are coming over to stamp themselves with a do-gooder label" he told Curry. "I don't control my temper well, I guess," he added. Penn was recently given the 2012 Peace Summit Award for his humanitarian work in Haiti. In an emotional acceptance speech, he stressed how much work there still is to be done on the island. "We have a very short window to support this team of the Haitian people's choosing," he explained and said of the award "I am humbled. I'm trembling and I like it."
In Cannes, Penn threw his 'Carnival in Cannes' benefit party in order to raise relief funds for Haiti. "The job isn't done," he told Curry, "The job of the international community isn't done. It's kind of a magic moment. It's an exciting time to be working in Haiti." Tables for the Carnival went for as much as $100,000 and guests at the event included Chris Rock and BEN STILLER.
