The-30-year-old actress has signed on to be the leading lady in a live-action adaptation of the Japanese comic book franchise.
After proving that she is a box office attraction and a lead star in the thriller 'Lucy,' Scarlett Johansson has signed on to star in Dreamworks' live-action adaptation of the Japanese manga and anime franchise 'Ghost in the Shell.'

Variety first reported that the 30-year-old actress has joined the production, which follows the ventures of a member of the Japanese National Public Safety Commission who specializes in fighting cyber-crime in the future where man and computer are at odds.
British filmmaker Rupert Sanders ('Snow White and the Huntsman') is set to direct the upcoming movie, and Bill Wheeler will the script. Avi Arad and Steven Paul will also be producing.

After seeing her performances as Black Widow in the Marvel cinematic universe as well as starring in the sci-fi hit 'Lucy,' Johansson has proven herself as a formidable leading lady when it comes to beating up the bad guys and saving the day.
As well as playing heavy action roles, however, the blonde beauty has also balanced out her career with much more character-driven parts that have been critically acclaimed, such as the successful dramas 'Her' and 'Under the Skin.'

Starting out as a popular Japanese comic book, 'Ghost in the Shell' has also been spawned into video games, a TV series and what most fans may remember, Mamoru Oshii's 1995 anime film of the same name, which garnered a cult following and even influenced the Wachoswkis' 'Matrix' trilogy.
As for the first live-action film in the franchise, Johansson will have to deliver a new spin on the familiar story.
