Rumors are circling the cast of Star War Episode VII – finally, we thought the project had been canned with all the radio silence – and they are focussing primarily on the perennial poster boy Ryan Gosling, who is being touted as a possible contender for Luke Skywalker’s son.

Ryan GoslingWill Gosling be exciting teenage girls in a galaxy far far away?

Apparently, he and Zach Efron went in for meetings at Lucasfilms last week, and while no role has been confirmed for the former Disney star, Gosling is in line for a major role. This is all down to Latino Review, who have a solid history for breaking this kind of news.

Any move for Gosling would probably be dependent on the Batman rumor that’s been flying around, kind of like a… bat? Anyway, he’s an outside favourite behind Joseph Gordon Levitt, who, if you ask us, isn’t likely at all considering he’s Robin. Warner Bros. need a new Batman since Bale dropped out, but Gosling would probably turn it down anyway considering his uneasiness with big-money franchise films.

Who else here thinks he’d make a brilliant Batman?

Back to Star Wars, though, and LucasFilms have been batting off rumors pretty quickly recently, so expect to hear about Gosling soon. The most recent was that J.J Abrams – director of the next movie – was dropping out. "There is no truth to the rumour," a Lucasfilm representative told IGN (July 22). "JJ is having a great time working on the script and is looking forward to going into production next year."
