Actor/singer Russell Crowe treated fans in Iceland to a surprise duet with rocker Patti Smith on Saturday (18Aug12), teaming up for a performance of her classic hit Because The Night.
The Gladiator star, who was in the country shooting new film Noah with director Darren Aronofsky, announced at late notice on Friday that he would be staging three gigs in the city of Reykjavik as part of the local Culture Night.
Crowe performed the first show with actor/singer Alan Doyle, but he had an unexpected guest join them on stage for the remaining concerts and the crowds erupted in delight as Smith was brought into the spotlight to perform her 1978 Bruce Springsteen collaboration with the Oscar winner as his Hollywood pal Ben Stiller looked on from the audience.
Taking to his Twitter.com page on Sunday, Crowe writes, "Iceland you have been wonderful, thanks for everything, hope to see you again sometime".
The actor is now planning to stage a similar gig in New York this autumn (12) with a few more guests on the bill, including his wife Danielle Spencer.
Notifying fans of the upcoming show, he adds, "October 13th line up Crowe & Doyle, Scott Grimes, Kevin Durand, Size2Shoes and Danielle Spencer. Venue in Manhattan,1 show, details soon".
