Boulevard, the final film of the late Robin Williams, may never make it to theatres, due to problems with finding a mainstream distributer.

In the film, made by Camellia Entertainment, Williams plays Nolan Mack a middle-aged married man who struggles with his sexuality before falling in love with a gay prostitute. Kathy Baker stars as Nolan’s wife Joy while Roberto Aguire plays Leo, the young prostitute whom Nolan falls for.

Earlier this year a rough cut of the film received positive reviews from critics when it was shown at New York's Tribeca Film Festival. But despite the positive reception the film has so far failed to find a distributor to bring it to theatres, according to The Mirror.

"It's really sad but it is looking impossible that Boulevard will ever see the light of day now," a source told The Mirror. "It has proved to be a struggle for it to find the support it needs to be released. The cast have tried, as have the crew, but for many reasons it is looking very unlikely. There is one suggestion it isn't up to scratch and is failing on merit to find anyone to distribute it,” the source added.

The film had been scheduled for release a few months ago but was put on hold due to a lack of financial backing. Before his death in August, Williams had described the film as a "beautiful, sad movie" which was "powerful to do”.

There are three further movies starring Williams which are due for release soon. A Merry Friggin' Christmas which stars Joel McHale is released in the US on November 7th while Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb hits theatres on December 19th. Williams also provided the voice for Simon Pegg's dog in Terry Jones' upcoming comedy Absolutely Anything.
