The tragic and sudden death of Robin Williams has shocked many around the world, and it seems the coroner's office was right in thinking the Oscar-winning actor committed suicide by asphyxiation. He was 63 years-old.

The legendary comedian, who has had a long battle with sobriety and depression, was found in his bedroom, fully clothed, and gently suspended in a seat with a belt wrapped around his neck, with one end wedged between the door and the frame of his closet.

At 11.45 a.m., Williams' personal assistant thought something may be wrong after she was banging on his bedroom door to no response, Lt. Keith Boyd, assistant chief deputy coroner for Marin County, Calif., announced at a press conference on Tuesday (Aug 12th).

Boyd also noted that once the assistant entered the property, she also identified superficial cuts on the late star's wrists, indicating that he may have tried to take his own life using another method.

When Williams' assistant entered the bedroom, "he was suspended from the belt ... in a seated position, slightly suspended off the ground," said Boyd, who also confirmed rigor mortis had already set in.

Paramedics were not called to the 'Mrs. Doubtfire' actor's home as he had passed away quite some time beforehand, and he was officially pronounced dead only seven minutes after the 911 call, which was made at 11.55 a.m.

Boyd also confirmed that the forensic investigation, performed by the Marin County Sheriff's Office chief forensic pathologist "did not reveal any injuries indicating that Williams had been in a struggle or any altercation."

The lieutenant did not confirm or deny if there was a suicide note, and a toxicology report, which will determine if he had any drugs or alcohol in his system at the time of his death, won't be available for weeks.

Although Williams' body is no longer in the custody of the county, his family nor Boyd gave any details when the late Hollywood actor's funeral will take place.
