Robin Williams fans are petitioning for the Waldo Tunnel in San Francisco, California to be renamed in honour of the tragic actor.
The petition had gained nearly 10,0000 signatures as Wenn went to press, with devotees urging local officials to change the name of the underpass, famous for its rainbow archway above the entrance.
The tunnel connects the city of San Francisco to Marin County, where Williams lived at the time of his death. It is unofficially named the Waldo Tunnel, and sometimes referred to as the Rainbow Tunnel, but now petition creator Julie Wainwright is hoping it can be named the Robin Williams Tunnel instead.
California politician Marc Levine, who is responsible for making the name-changing decision, has responded to the petition, saying, "I am very interested in this issue and will be exploring it further. Something like this should be done in consultation with Mr. Williams' family. We all want to make sure this is the most proper way to honour him."
