Director Chris Columbus and the star of the 1993 film, Robin Williams, are expected to reunite for the forthcoming project.
The comedy classic 'Mrs. Doubtfire' is reportedly set to return to the big-screen.
After 21 years since the comedy favourite was released, Fox 2000 want to bring it back to life, and include the original team.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio will reunite Robin Williams and director Chris Columbus for a 'Mrs. Doubtfire' sequel.
The screenwriter of 'Elf' David Berenbaum, is writing the film's script.
The original classic followed Williams' character Daniel Hillard, a struggling voice actor whose personal life falls apart after his wife, Miranda Hillard, files for divorce.
Miranda, who is played by Sally Field, wins full custody of their three children, but Daniel misses them terribly, so in order to see them on a regular basis he poses as a Scottish housekeeper called Euphegenia Doubtfire.
The combination of humor and family love proved hugely popular amongst cinemagoers in 1993 as the film was a commercial success, earning $219 million domestically and $222 million internationally.
'Mrs. Doubtfire' also received critical acclaim with Robin Williams winning a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Musical/Comedy category, as well as the Golden Globe for Best Comedy/Musical.
THR also reports a sequel was first discussed in 2001 and even had several scripts attached to it, but the project soon became dormant for years, which is reportedly due to Williams and Columbus not showing any interest in a follow-up until now.
In recent years Williams has starred in the 'Night at the Museum' film franchise, as well as the animated 'Happy Feet' franchise. He took a much more serious role last year when starring as Dwight D. Eisenhower in 'Lee Daniels' The Butler.'
