Robert Pattinson has anti-anxiety medication Valium to thank for his TWILIGHT success - he would never have landed the lead as brooding EDWARD CULLEN if he hadn't popped a pill before his first audition.
The British actor admits he was really anxious on his way to director Catherine Hardwicke's house for a screen test before he was a definite for the role - and he needed a little extra help calming his nerves.
In an exclusive interview with U.S. news show Nightline, which airs on Monday night (14Jun10), Pattinson recalls, "I knew it was going to be a long audition because I was doing a screen test for it, and it was at the director's house. Twenty minutes before I had to leave (for it), I just suddenly started panicking."
He took "a few" Valium from the friend he was staying with.
Pattinson adds, "(It was) probably one of the best decisions I've ever made. I remember thinking that even when I was in the cab on the way over there. I was thinking, 'I want to get a prescription for these.'"
