Since Rihanna first topped the international music charts back in 2005 with her debut single Pon De Replay, the 26 year old star has become a force to be reckoned with. Fierce and unafraid to march to the beat of her own drum, Rihanna has released a string of successful records as well as becoming famous for her unique and fearless fashion sense (although she did once say that her own style idol was Princess Diana: "she was gangsta with her clothes" apparently). Her style savvy didn’t go unnoticed by designers and she has since produced a range with Armani as well as a complete collection which she designed in collaboration with British high street store, River Island.

rihanna vogue interview Rihanna is famous for her fashion sense as well as her music

Rihanna can currently be found looking fabulous on the March 2014 cover of US Vogue, the third time the magazine has chosen her to feature as their cover girl.  Lucky Vogue reporter Plum Sykes was given the fantastic opportunity to meet (and be styled) by RiRi and what ensued was a delightful and enlightening glimpse into the superstar’s life and her surprisingly grounded character.

Here are our favourite bits from Vogue’s March 2014 interview with Rihanna.

When Rihanna decides to do Plum’s eye makeup for her: “Jen. Get me my eyeliner from MAC!”

Rihanna on her current extravagant barnet: “It’s not my hair, but the girl who donated it, she’s the bomb.”

Rihanna’s philosophy on wearing painful high heels when she's performing, or out on the town: “It’s not about pain. It’s about the commitment. I say to myself, ‘I want to look like this,’ and worry about the pain later.”

She doesn't wear designer jewels just because she can afford them: “My jewelry’s all fake - from Claire’s. Or I get it from my mom’s boutique in Barbados. Her shop’s called FAB-U-LUS.”

When she finally manages to style Plum just right: “If I saw you walking into Starbucks in that, I’d wife you!”

She likes Instagramming animals doing silly things as much as the rest of us: “If my dog is running around in circles and I think that’s funny, I put it on Instagram”.

What becomes most apparent from Rihanna’s most recent interview with Vogue is that she may have been globally famous for nearly a decade now but she is, in many ways, just a normal 26 year old girl. She’s candid about things that lots of celebrities can often try to conceal and seems to maintain close and amiable relationships with her entourage as well as being warm and welcoming to new people.  We were huge fans of Rihanna before the interview, but we're even more so now!
