The tour will now start on March 12th in Jacksonville, with the first eight dates re-arranged for May.
The first eight dates of Rihanna’s upcoming Anti tour have been cancelled and re-arranged, after organisers experienced production delays in the stage set.
RiRi has pushed back the starting date of her lengthy world tour to March 12th in Jacksonville, Florida, when it was supposed to have started on February 26th in San Diego. The affected gigs, which also include Oakland, San Jose, Houston, Austin, Dallas, Atlanta and New Orleans, have been re-arranged for May after the tour was supposed to have ended, with the date in Phoenix happening on May 1st.
Rihanna has been forced to cancel and re-arrange the first few dates of her 'Anti' tour because of production problems
The singer, who celebrates her 28th birthday on Saturday (February 20th), has apparently been forced to wait for two weeks before starting the 40-date North American tour because of production problems with regards to the stage set.
She’ll be joined by rapper and singer Travis Scott during the North American leg of the tour, in support of her eighth album Anti, and when she heads for Europe she’ll be supported by Canadian singer The Weeknd and Big Sean.
More: Rihanna suffered “hysterical” outburst of rage before cancelled Grammys performance
It comes in the same week that Rihanna had to cancel her scheduled appearance at the 2016 Grammys, in a performance of ‘Kiss It Better’ that was supposed to have featured a guest appearance by talk show host James Corden (!). However, it was later alleged that she had flown into a temper tantrum and quit the production, though the given reason by spokepeople was that she had suffered with bronchitis.
“Based on Rihanna's examination, after Grammy rehearsal today, Rihanna's doctor put her on vocal rest for 48-hours because she was at risk of haemorrhaging her vocal chords,” a representative told reporters at the time. “The antibiotics she has been on for three days did not kill the infection adequately therefore she cannot perform safely.”
She tweeted after the cancellation: “#NAVY so sorry I couldn't be there… Thanks Grammys and CBS for your support tonight.”
