The Notebook star was travelling in the U.S. when a female customs officer made a catty remark about her hair after she had it dyed with pink streaks in 2006.

The woman also told the actress her films were "stupid", and MCAdams now fears she will be subjected to similar rudeness every time she travels.

She tells The Sunday Times Magazine, "I couldn't say anything in case she threatened to deport me!"
