We’re only just beginning to mourn the split of Prince Harry and Cressida Bonas. We'd grown sort of accustomed to the pair over the past few months, particularly since they'd started being seen so regularly together.  It looked like the 30 year old Prince was preparing to settle down with the 25 year old marketing assistant, but reports this week that the pair have called it quits suggests otherwise.

But what went wrong for Harry and Cressida? Just a few weeks ago the couple, who had been together since 2012, were pictured looking calm and happy watching the England v. Wales rugby match at Twickenham. Cressida, known by her friends as Cressie, had also recently attended her first official engagement with her royal beau, so how did things manage to go downhill so quickly?

Sources say that Cressida had become too reliant on Harry, describing her as “needy.” This explanation for the split has been vehemently denied by those close to the couple. One source revealed, “He is furious at this suggestion that the split was in any way because she was relying too much on him. Cressida is one of the most independent people he knows.”

The breakup is said to be amicable, with one source claiming that the pair have gone their separate ways because of Cressida’s desire to progress her career. The source claimed, “Cressida has decided she wants to focus on her career and Harry is really keen that she is allowed to get on with her life.” At just 25 years old, Leeds University graduate Bonas is indeed at the beginning of an important time in her life. It seems she was faced with two possibilities: pursue a career or become ‘Prince Harry’s girlfriend.’ She has obviously decided on the former and after years of study obtaining a university degree, who can blame her?

One name that keeps cropping up in connection to the split is Guy Pelly. More specifically, the wedding of Guy Pelly. Pelly, a friend of the Prince’s, is due to marry in Tennessee this weekend. Cressida had been due to accompany Harry, although the pair allegedly fell out over paying the airfare. The £650 ($1100) ticket was said to have been indirectly responsible for a row that the pair had. Cressida had been expected to pay for her own ticket and did not want to spend so much if their relationship wasn’t going to last. The couple are said to have fallen out and ultimately parted ways.
