Gray’s Anatomy heartthrob Patrick Dempsey will be serving it up hot – the coffee that is – as he just managed to buy out the popular Seattle coffee chain Tully’s.
The TV star with coffee shop mogul ambitions announced the news over Twitter: "We met the green monster, looked her in the eye, and...SHE BLINKED! We got it! Thank you Seattle!” Dempsey’s bid won over the almighty coffee giant – Starbucks – and his company – Global Baristas Llc. will now give the local coffee chain a makeover, while still retaining the brand’s overall image. That’s the plan, at least. According to Dempsey, the small coffee chain needs to find its identity. "It's a much smaller chain that has a lot of potential that hasn't been given the proper care," he said, quoted by ABC News.
It’s a rare defeat for Starbucks and what probably stings even more is that it happened on home ground, but it may not be time for Dempsey to celebrate just yet. In a statement released by Starbucks, the company insinuated that the sale would be disputed and a final decision wouldn’t be made on the case until January 11. Whether Dempsey wins or not, will certainly be interesting to see what happens to Tully’s under the new management.
