British/Irish boyband One Direction have ended the year on a high after a new report revealed they pulled in a massive $282 million (£176.3 million) in global ticket sales in 2014.

The group saw off competition from artists including Justin Timberlake and the Rolling Stones to be named the highest-selling live act of 2014 by Pollstar.

One Direction came top of the organisation's Top 20 Worldwide Tours report ahead of Timberlake in second place with $184.7 million (£115.4 million) in ticket sales.

The Rolling Stones came in third with $165.1 million (£103.2 million), while the top five was rounded out by Katy Perry and husband-and-wife team Beyonce and Jay Z in fourth and fifth respectively.
