Screenwriter Zach Helm will bring children's adventure movie 'Jumanji' up to date in a remake of the 1995 film.
Zach Helm is set to write a 'Jumanji' remake.
The 'Stranger Than Fiction' screenwriter has been chosen to pen a Columbia Pictures reboot of the 1995 fantasy adventure about a board game that comes to life, which starred Robin Williams and a young Kirsten Dunst.
Matt Tolmach, who is responsible for 'The Amazing Spider-Man', is producing the film along with Bill Teitler while Ted Field and Mike Weber will be executive producers, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Doug Belgrad, president of Sony-owned Columbia Pictures announced in July: ''We're going to try and reimagine 'Jumanji' and update it for the present.''
Little is known about how Zach will bring the family favourite film - based on the book by Chris Van Allsburg - into the present day, or whether the 2005 Jon Favreau-directed spin-off 'Zathura' will be taken into account.
The original movie tells the story of two children who discover a magic board game and release a strange man, Alan Parrish (Robin Williams) who has been trapped in there for decades. As they begin playing the game, they accidentally release a number of terrifying jungle hazards and creatures into their world and must race against time to get to the end of the board.
Zach recently also re-wrote the script for upcoming comedy 'The Secret Life of Walter Mitty', starring Ben Stiller.
