Not to be outdone by Oprah Winfrey, who was credited with landing the biggest get on TV in years when she persuaded Lance Armstrong to appear on her cable TV network, Katie Couric has secured an interview with Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te'o. ABC News announced on Sunday that the interview will air on Couric's syndicated daytime talk show on Thursday. Clips from the interview will air during the week on Good Morning America, ABC World News with Diane Sawyer, and Nightline. Te'o was interviewed by telephone by ESPN on Friday, but Couric's will mark his first on-camera interview, and it will come as journalists, who had failed to fact-check the story of his romance with a woman who supposedly died of cancer on the same day that his grandmother died, are scurrying to piece together what actually happened. Te'o said on Friday that Ronaiah Tuiasosopo, whom he identified as the perpetrator of the online scam, had apologized to him, but Tuiasosopo has been ducking reporters since his name emerged in the ongoing scandal. Notre Dame has said that a team of outside investigators that it hired did not attempt to reach him, nor did it attempt to access cellphone records or email exchanges that might have shed light on the hoax.
