Mystery surrounds the sudden departure of Netflix spokesman Steve Swasey, a ten-year veteran of the online movie renter. Swasey was regarded as the public face of the company, handling, among other matters, questions concerning the embarrassing series of awkward moves by CEO Reed Hastings last year to transform the company into a streaming media provider. His departure was first reported on Friday by the SeekingAlpha.com website, which said that it learned about it when a switchboard operator at the company told a reporter that Swasey was "no longer with the company." Home Media magazine reported today (Monday) that Swasey sent it a text message saying that all's well "and that he would update his situation shortly."
