With the 3D version of Titanic producing so-so business domestically and only slightly better business in most foreign countries, all eyes are now on China, where the original version barely saw the light of day in theaters. Although the distributor, Fox International, only receives a fraction of ticket sales compared to North America and Europe, the sheer size of the potential Chinese audience could offset the smaller percentage. Early results appear promising. Daily Variety reported today (Wednesday) that the movie earned $265,000 on Monday at just 62 IMAX theaters, setting an IMAX record for that country.
