Winner of the Tiger award at last year’s Rotterdam International Film Festival, Chilean drama Thursday Till Sunday will be released in UK cinemas on 5th April 2013. You can watch the trailer for it below.

Thursday Till Sunday is the feature-length debut from director Dominga Sotomayo, who said of the movie: “De Jueves A Domingo comes out of memories of family trips, of many hours of travelling, the weariness and the children’s games; all those things that are only thought and occur under confinement."

The film has had an average response so far, but many of the so-called ‘big reviewers’ are yet to weigh in. Total Film gave the movie 3/5 stars, saying: “Castillo conjures up the drifting tween viewpoint beautifully, gripped by car-roof-surfing and river-exploring alongside the subdued bickering of parents Francisco Pérez-Bannen and Paola Giannini.” The Boston Globe also award the film 3 stars, but this time it’s out of 4. They say: “Chilean filmmaker Dominga Sotomayor Castillo’s assured feature debut takes place almost entirely within the confines of a car. It’s a road trip film from the back seat point of view of 10-year-old Lucia (Santi Ahumada), who observes her parents as they sit in the front seat, seen mostly in profile or even wandering out of frame.”

The writer/director adds of the film, “I am motivated by the relationship between film and memory, with a certain refusal to forget that in De jueves a domingo has to do with capturing childhood. I think that the children have natural fears that they eventually learn to forget, and a straight-forward take on things. It has to do with an unconditional take on love and a certain form of resigned sadness.”
