Gurung's show was a resounding success, despite the unforseen circumstance.
New York Fashion Week is the place to show off the latest trends – both on the catwalk and off it – however, during a Prabal Gurung show on Saturday, one fan decided to go minimal with his look – completely minimal. There’s no other way to say it – amid the gongs, mood music and richly colored coats on the Himalayas-inspired runway, there was also a streaker. A man dressed in in an animal-print G-string, crown and bright red socks briefly walked the Prabal Gurung runway on Saturday, the Washington Post reports.
Gurung's designs have been worn by the likes of Sandra Bullock, Zoe Saldana and Cate Blanchett.
The man was apparently one of the more chivalrous streakers out there, since he used his stage time to kneel in front of one of the models as she walked. The model, however, was a pro till the end and didn’t even break stride as she walked around him and went on about her business. Eventually, the brave G-string wearing soul got chased off stage, while photographers and Twitteratti snapped away at the sight.
Bar the minor obstruction, the show was a dramatic and opulent interpretation of the Himalayan theme. Gurung, a Nepalese American designer, embroidered organza for draped looks in blouses. He embellished chiffon with sequins and Swarovski crystals. Gowns, in deep blue and crimson, dominated the finale. During a backstage interview for the WP, Gurung explained that he was inspired by a tiny former kingdom in mountainous Mustang and the indigenous culture and textures found there. He visited on a recent trip home to Nepal and it “gave me this sense of calm and serenity.”
We want to wear these luxe @prabalgurung pieces right now. See more from his fall collection: http://t.co/XvtBbguvaV pic.twitter.com/dQiPxfc4r4
