Sofia Richie is the new face of Madonna's Material Girl fashion line.

The 16-year-old model - who is the sister of Nicole Richie and daughter of Lionel Richie - shared the first image from the brand's fifth anniversary campaign and said it was ''such an honour'' to work alongside the 'Rebel Heart' superstar and her daughter, Lourdes Leon aka. Lola.

She posted the first campaign image to Instagram alongside the caption: ''It's such an honor for me to announce that I'm the new face of Madonna and Lola's Material Girl! Can't wait to show you the awesome ads we created in NYC. Follow @materialgirl for more from our shoot. Coming to Macy's soon #5years (sic).''

Asked by Yahoo Style about the queen of pop, Sofia gushed: ''Of course I look up to Madonna. I mean, she's Madonna. She's like the god of music.''

She also revealed the collaboration came about because she and Lourdes met through mutual friends.

She said: ''I have a few friends in common with Madonna's daughter, and we've been wanting to meet for a few years. And then one day, I just heard, like, hey Madonna and her daughter want you to shoot for their line and I was like, 'Wow, that's so crazy'. There are so many people that Madonna and Lola could have picked to be the new face, and it's really cool to be a part of.''
