American Chopper has been cancelled by the Discovery Channel after 10 years and 233 episodes on the air. The show was primarily based on the Teutul family and their custom motorcycle building shop Orange County Choppers in Newburgh, New York.
Eileen O'Neill, group president of Discovery and TLC Networks told Entertainment Weekly, "After 10 years and 233 episodes of incredible, riveting reality television, American Chopper will be ending its run. This series was one of the very first family-based reality programs on television. Special thanks to Pilgrim Studios for over a decade of great producing. The Teutuls have given us really innovative bike builds and real drama since 2002. We wish both Orange County Choppers and Paul Junior Designs the best." The show thrived on the conflicts between Paul Sr and Paul Jr though the rivalry turned into a full blown feud that threatened to rip the family apart. Paul Sr fired Paul Jr in 2008 and a lengthy legal battle ensued before the latter started his own his business. The pair eventually reconciled and the show returned with a focus on the rebuilding of their relationship.
American Chopper will conclude with a live bike-building special in which the Tuetuls will compete against rival chopper building star Jesse James, and others. It will air on December 10 and December 11, at 9pm.
