This year’s Record Store Day will feature the opening of the smallest record shop in the world. According to the NME, a tiny pop-up venue will be temporarily open for one day in London.

The tiny mobile outlet is the brainchild of Tjinder Singh and Ben Ayres, also known as the British indie group Cornershop, who have their own record label Ample Play. The store will be open on Record Store Day only, which is held on April 18th this year, and will be located 256 Albion Street, London, N16 9JP and open between the hours of 11am to 5pm.

Ayres and Singh have promised that their micro-venture will provide “bargains and a great day out”. The pair are both avid record collectors, and organised a similar event on the same day last year. The last album they released as Cornershop was in 2012, called Urban Turban.

Though they have dwelled on the edges of the music mainstream for virtually their entire career, they famously scored a massive chart-topping single in the UK when Norman Cook (aka Fatboy Slim) remixed their song ‘Brimful of Asha’ in 1997.

Record Store Day is an annual event designed to boost awareness of independent music outlets. Originating in the US in 2007, it came to Britain the following year and subsequently has attracted the participation of mainstream acts releasing limited edition material only available in such outlets.

In 2015, Foo Fighters and Mumford & Sons are among those releasing exclusive music, and there’s all manner of weird and ultra-rare knick-knacks besides. For instance, Jack White will re-issue a limited run of copies of Elvis Presley’s first ever recordings at the Sun Studios in Memphis, for which he recently paid $300,000 at an auction.

Dave Grohl is the official ambassador for Record Store Day, which is held on April 18th, 2015.
