Simon McCoy strikes again!
Simon McCoy is old school. We imagine when the BBC production team had a meeting about incorporating iPads into their broadcasts, old McCoy flat-out refused, choosing instead to use a simple pack of printer paper.
Simon McCoy Is Establishing Himself As A Legendary Figure in the BBC Newsroom
The 51-year-old presenter left viewers baffled this week when he presented an item holding a bundle of photocopier paper - which is massive - after apparently mistaking it for an iPad. McCoy was recording a piece to camera about "drunk tanks" whilst holding a giant refill pack of A4 paper on his hands.
A spokeswoman for BBC News explained: "This morning as Simon McCoy was preparing to introduce this story, instead of picking up his tablet to hold as he went to air, he mistakenly picked up a ream of paper that was sitting next to it.
"In the rush of live news, he didn't have an opportunity to swap the items, so simply went with it."
McCoy has a maverick history in the BBC newsroom. While covering the birth of Prince George in July, the veteran broadcaster admitted that there was...well...no news.
"Well, plenty more to come from here of course," he told viewers, "None of it news because that will come from Buckingham Palace. But that won't stop us."
McCoy was also seen briefly resting his head on a desk when cameras cut to him, later tweeting, "It was a long desk head-banging that wasn't meant to be picked up in the BBC1 opt!!"
In 2010, McCoy received a middle finger salute from weatherman Tomasz Schafernaker after he sarcastically claimed his weather forecast would be "100% accurate and provide all the detail you could possibly want."
