15 years after joining Balenciaga at the tender age of 25, the creative director of the company Nicolas Ghesquière has decided to leave the fashion house in favour of pastures new.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the company said that Ghesquière will be leaving at the end of the month, on November 30th- but neither they, nor the man himself, left any clues as to where he'll be headed next. Furthermore, there is no word as to who will be taking over the role left by  Ghesquière, which further shows just how surprising his leaving the company is.

Ghesquière's influence in Balenciaga has been considered the saving grace of the brand, after saving it when he took over as the creative director years ago.  Ghesquière's designs have been hugely influential and his handbags have fans across the world, boasting some major celebrity fans including Kristen Stewart, Beyonce Knowles and Nicole Kidman. Despite being founded by a Basque designer, Balenciaga is now housed in Paris and part of the Gucci Group which is now owned by the luxury brand conglomerate PPR. PPR also took over Yves Saint Laurent last year and brought in Hedi Slimane whose debut show at this year's Paris Fashion Week absolutely blew the the crowds away. Hopefully  Ghesquière's move will prove to be a positive move, as just as lucrative as Slimane's move, for both the company and himself.
