They say nothing is sacred anymore, and with the newly announced plans to make a movie about December's tragic school shooting in Newton, Connecticut, so soon after the cataclysm then it looks as though this proverb might be true after all.
If this wasn't enough, then news that the up-coming project's director is planning on filming the made-for-TV movie related to the shooting just 20 miles away from Newtown in nearby Ridgefield, Conn. should be enough to get people riled up. However, the film's production team have insisted that this film, titled Illness, will not be an account of the shootings per-se, but it will hold special significance to the plot.
According to Indiegogo, the fundraising page that is funding the film, Illness will centre on a “thirteen-year-old boy with a terrible mental illness, and the ever-growing fear of his parents after they learn about the shooting in Newtown in December 2012.” The film's producers responded to the claims that it was not making a film about Sandy Hook via it's Facebook page, NBC Connecticut reported, but this comment has since been removed. The statement read: “Dear friends, after yesterday’s report about the film, I would like to clarify one very important point. We are not doing a movie about what happened in Newtown and will never do so. We are doing a non-profit film about mental illness. Our objective is to help families with kids struggling with mental illness. I thank you again for all your support.”
Nonetheless, the filming plans have still caused outrage in the community, and Ridgefield officials have since announced that they will not allow the film to be shot in their town, adding that they were never contacted for permission in the first place.
