Analysts are scratching their heads over the emergence of TBS as the top-rated cable channel among the all-important 18-49 age group despite the fact that not one of its shows is listed among the top 50 on cable TV and that not one is a first-run original. Today's (Thursday) New York Times summarized the channel's formula for success this way "Buy repeats. Then repeat." That formula keeps TBS ahead of its rivals with an average of 1.21 million viewers in the 18-49 demographic group. ESPN and USA are tied for second place with 1.10 million viewers, just ahead of History Channel with 1.05 million. The Times indicated that much credit goes to CBS's comedy hit, The Big Bang Theory , which repeats in heavy rotation on the channel.
