Kiosk operator Redbox may be attempting to insinuate itself into the good graces of the movie studios by selling theater tickets at its 38,000 rental locations, Home Media magazine indicated on Thursday. Studios have previously regarded the $1.25-a-day video rental company operated by Coinstar as a principal culprit in the decline of DVD sales. But Home Media quoted Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter as saying in a note to clients on Thursday, "We believe that Coinstar intends to sell movie tickets through Redbox kiosks, helping its studio partners to drive higher-margin theatrical exhibition sales, while driving awareness of films that will ultimately come to [disc]."
