Those who were looking forward to the 21st century incarnation of the 'Power Rangers' may have to wait a little longer as a new release date is announced, seeing the final unveiling pushed back 6 months from July 2016 to January 2017.

'Power Rangers' is the latest of your childhood obsessions to be brought to life once again with a gripping live action film set to be released in less than two years. The new project was announced almost a year ago with Dean Israelite as director; a man who made his full-length film debut with 'Project Almanac' last year. Writing duo Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz ('X-Men: First Class', 'Thor') are adapting the screenplay from the original TV series by co-producers Shuki Levy and Haim Saban.

No cast has yet been announced but, seeing as the costumed superheroes are meant to be high-school kids, we could be seeing some new faces on our screens. The first movie adaptation of 'Power Rangers' was 1995's cult hit 'Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie' starring Jason David Frank, Amy Jo Johnson, David Yost, Steve Cardenas, Karan Ashley and Johnny Yong Bosch. This was followed up by the marginally less successful 1997 sequel 'Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie' and since then, the franchise has expanded with Lionsgate's Saban Brands buying back the series with eighteenth season 'Power Rangers Samurai'.

'Power Rangers' isn't the only 90s sensation to see a reboot either. Last year, Jonathan Liebesman's new 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' made a splash at the box office, and the new adaptation of 'RoboCop' became the highest grossing film of the franchise.
