A British ex-plumber who scooped $10.1 million in the 'Big One For One Drop' poker championship in Las Vegas, has been attacked by six men. 26-year-old Sam Trickett from Retford, Nottinghamshire, was left with a cut face and bruises, though he had nothing stolen, reports the UK's Daily Mail.
The poker champion was attacked in the early hours of Thursday morning (July 5, 2012), just hours after winning $10.1 million by finishing runner-up in the annual championship. He had previously placed a stake of $1 million to enter the competition, the highest entry fee in poker history. Mr Trickett understandably hit the Vegas strip to celebrate his win, though was set upon by six strangers. He tweeted last night, "Was having a great day until 6 guys did this to me. Seriously WTF? Couldn't be more angry cowards", before posting a picture of his injuries. He later added, "Is this what happens if you're successful?". His companion Natasha Sandhu shed some more light on the situation via her own Twitter page, saying, "It wasn't a mugging or anything just over nothing. Sam is fine... gonna spend some quality time together now".
The competition was won by Italy-born Antonio Edfandiari, who took home $18.3 million in prize money. Forty-eight players took part in the poker championship, which began last Sunday (July 1, 2012), before wrapping up on Wednesday.
