Cult rockers Pixies are set to reissue five of their albums in limited edition and deluxe edition box sets entitled Minotaur, it has been revealed.

The deluxe edition will include all five of the band's studio albums - Come on Pilgrim, Surfer Rosa, Doolittle, Bossanova and Trompe le Monde on 24k layered CD and Blu-ray.

As well as this, the release will feature a live DVD and 54-page book, along with artwork by Vaughan Oliver, the man who designed the sleeves for the band's studio releases.

The limited edition version will include everything that is in the deluxe version, as well as the five albums on vinyl, a print of the artwork and a 72-page hardcover book.

Jeff Anderson, the man behind the project, explained his thinking.

"As a Pixies fan, I asked myself, 'How can we re-release this without making this just another box set?' I think we've all been down that road where you've purchased a box set and have been disappointed by only getting a few bonus tracks and a few extra photos," he said.

For this reason, Anderson decided to offer the fans something they "would truly appreciate and cherish" at the same time as introducing the band to those who have yet to experience their music.

However, it was Oliver who was behind the decision to package the offerings in such an elaborate manner.

Oliver, now an art teacher, explained: "I said, 'That was then, this is now. Why don't we do a whole new body of work? It's all born of the same lyrics and albums - it would be evolving the ideas we had in the original packages.'"

Those looking to purchase the sets will have to fork out $175 (£120) for the deluxe edition and $450 for the limited edition.

Pixies are set to play one UK date this year, the Isle of White Festival.
