Threatened by legal action from the major motion picture and recording companies, the BitTorrent site Pirate Bay has pulled up anchor in Sweden and has headed for Norway and Spain. For the last three years, the Swedish Pirate Party has provided the Pirate Bay with Internet connectivity, but the website TorrentFreak.com, which keeps tabs on BitTorrent sites, reported today (Tuesday) that the Swedish Pirate Party received a warning from the anti-piracy group Rights Alliance last week that if would be sued if it continued its working relationship with the Pirate Bay. Defending itself against such a lawsuit, the Pirate Party concluded, would sap its resources. However, Swedish Pirate Party Leader Anna Troberg said in a statement that there are now more than 60 different Pirate Parties all over the world. Every cut connection to The Pirate Bay will generate two new connections, she said. She also indicated that the Party plans to file a police complaint against the Rights Alliance for unlawful coercion.
