BBC Radio Stoke presenter Paula White had to be taken off air during what was her final, farewell show on the regional radio station, after slurring her words and appearing to be drunk (or, in other words, she was drunk as a skunk).
White had to be taken off air only 30 minutes into her Friday afternoon show last week, with the presenter admitting on air that she had already had a couple of drinks, but maintained that she wasn't drunk. Shortly after the beginning of the show, an alert listener sent in a text to the show to say that White sounded drunk, after which White responded by saying she'd only had a few (classic drunk talk).
A replacement for White was brought in after the 30 minute mark, with White presumably sent home early with a slap on the wrist and a headache in the morning. A spokesperson for the BBC later said that she was, "unable to continue as she was under par".
White walked away from her 1pm-4pm slot on the station after around six years as host, having spent close to 16 years altogether as a radio personality. The BBC have yet to disclose whether or not they are pursuing any further action against the former presenter because of her actions, or whether White will continue to work for Radio Stoke. She was due to begin a weekend show following the end of her Friday afternoon slot.
