The beautiful Reeva Steenkamp was shot dead yesterday (Valentine's Day, 14th February). Today, her partner Oscar Pistorious weeps in court, having been arrested for her murder.

Steenkamp was a model and actress who, it has been reported, was just about to hit stardom. She was already the face of Avon Cosmetics in South Africa, the country in which she was born, and was set to be a contestant in a Jamaican-filmed reality show, Tropika Island of Treasure. She was the girlfriend of Paralympic medalist Oscar Pistorius, also South African, whose excellent feats of athletic ability are sure to be overshadowed by the accusation of murder. According to New 24, police are opposed to bail for the young athlete, which may result in him having to stay in jail until his trial.

Pistorius wept in court today, so loudly that the magistrate even commented on his emotion. The model's death came as an obvious shock to all of her friends and family, many of whom have made public statements about their grief.

As the Guardian reports, former editor of S. Africa's FHM mag had known Steenkamp since she was just 15. Hagen Engler revealed "she was an amazing girl, a really intelligent person," he said. "She went into the modelling industry and had a mature understanding of it. She had a funny sense of humour, like a guy's sense of humour. She was talented and was starting to succeed. The girl was really going places."
