An 80-year-old man has been arrested in south London on suspicion of sexual offences connected to the entertainer Jimmy Savile, one of the Britain's most prolific sex offenders, according to the BBC.

The Met Police confirmed that the 80-year-old was arrested at an address in the capital and taken into custody. It is part of the Met's Operation Yewtree, set up in the wake of allegations against Jimmy Savile.

Particularly of note is that the latest arrest specifically falls under the strand of the investigation termed 'Savile and others.'

Yewtree falls under three strands, one of which relates to complaints against other people unconnected to the Savile investigation.

The other specifically looks at the actions of the late entertainer, while the last concerns those connected to Savile.

The 80-year-old - currently unnamed - is the 14th person to be arrested under Operation Yewtree, which is investigating hundreds of sex abuse allegations.

In October 2012, convicted sex offender Gary Glitter was arrested as part of the investigations, with comedian Freddie Starr arrested weeks later. Two weeks later, former BBC producer Wilfred De'ath was arrested in Cambridge on suspicion of sexual offenses, though the complainant later withdrew her statement.

A fourth man, DJ Dave Lee Travis was arrested on November 15, 2013 and re-arrested on March 13, while publicist Max Clifford was the next to be arrested before Christmas.

Controversial comedian Jim Davidson and entertainer Jimmy Tarbuck were arrested earlier this year and artist and musician Rolf Harris was arrested in March and re-arrested last week over further allegations of sexual offences.

His arrests are not connected to the Savile investigation, though he has been dropped from Channel 5's Animal Clinic.
