Reps for the Dobrev and Somerhalder haven't been reached for comment yet.
Fans of CW’s The Vampire Diaries will have one less romance to track, as the show’s stars Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder have split up. After nearly three years of dating, a source announced the news this week in an exclusive for Us Weekly. The couple first met while filming the show and it was definitely not Dobrev’s intent to start a relationship with her co-star, as she revealed last year for Seventeen.
"But sometimes you can't help who you have a connection with, and you can only fight it for so long -- which I did for a really, really long time," she told the magazine. Sadly, it looks like the connection has run its course by now. But the couple will have to avoid any awkwardness on set though, as they begin filming the fifth season of The Vampire Diaries later this year. But that won’t be a problem, since both Nina and Ian are "consummate professionals," the insider says, and "will continue to work together and remain best friends, which is where the relationship started."
In any case, the actress will have the summer to clear her head before starting the next season, as she takes the three months to film the Fox movie Let's Be Cops, which also stars New Girl's Jake Johnson and Happy Endings' Damon Wayans Jr.
