The current trend is television is to reboot old favourites and Nickelodeon is now planning on following suit. The children’s television network, owned by Viacom, is seriously considering revamping some of the 1990s most beloved children’s shows, according to reports.

Nickelodeon’s president of content and development, Russell Hicks, confirmed the network was considering revamping some of their old series. 

“We are looking at our library to bring back ideas, shows that were loved, in a fresh new way,” Hicks told Variety.

Nickelodeon was responsible for such shows as The Rugrats and Hey Arnold so there’s a possibility a number of Nick’s old series could return. Variety have suggested the series may not return in their original format but may appear on our screens as specials or even movies. 

Reports suggest part of Nick’s drive to revamp old series is that those who watched the show as children 20 years ago now have children of their own. There also appears to be a demand from parents for a return of shows they watched in their childhoods.  

“We are getting ready to bring back some of the ones they’ve told us multiple times they want to have brought back,” Hicks added. 

In recent years, there’s been a swing back to series which were hugely popular in the 90s and 80s with such series as Full House being revived by Netflix. Meanwhile, in the UK, new series of such classics as Blackadder and Cold Feet are rumoured to be in the works.
