NBC has denied a Hollywood Reporter item that it is planning to replace Jay Leno with Jimmy Fallon, currently the host of NBC's Late Night, in the summer of 2014. The network has called categorically untrue the story, which quoted unnamed sources as saying that NBC is planning to make the announcement of the switch next May. A similar report appeared in the New York Daily News last December. At the time, Fallon said in an interview with the newspaper, If there's one thing I've learned from Dave [Letterman] and Conan [O'Brien], it's that hosting this show is a one-way ticket to not hosting The Tonight Show.
