Michelle sure has shocked a lot of people with a couple of unpleasant homophobic comments of late.
After reports that Michelle Shocked went on a homophobic rant during a gig recently, the singer has issued an apology.
Sort of. Are you ready for the lamest excuse ever? In an open letter from her publicist, the performer claimed that she was merely trying to speak up for "Christians with opinions I in no way share." Well, that’s good, she had a lot of people going with that one. Unfortunately, this statement pales in the light of a recently recorded tangent she went on and that one’s pretty definitive. "From their vantage point – and I really shouldn't say 'their', because it's mine too – we are nearly at the end of time," she is heard to say, "and from our vantage point, we're gonna be – I think maybe Chinese water torture is going to be the method. Once Prop 8 gets [repealed] and once preachers are held at gunpoint and forced to marry the homosexuals, I'm pretty sure that that will be the signal for Jesus to come on back."
Sounds oddly reminiscent of something a Westboro Baptist Church member would say. She later tried to distance herself from those remarks with an equally iffy statement, but, much like her music, fewer and fewer people are buying it. Michelle Shocked, who is a born-again Christian, tried in multiple statements to differentiate between hating the belief and hating the believer, but somehow, it all sounds like the same old rehashed non-sense.
So, in light of all of Michelle Shocked’s conflicting statements, what are we to believe? Well, nothing. The world is moving on. Who has time for homophobia anymore?
