Matt Healy has shut down rumours he is dating Taylor Swift.

The frontman of rock group The 1975 has been romantically linked to the 25-year-old musician on several occasions but insists while they did swap telephone numbers, they have never dated.

Speaking about the rumours, he said: ''It's fake. It's all bloody fake. It's a farce!

Despite admitting they ''spoke occasionally,'' the rocker, also 25, doubts they would ever be able to have a proper relationship even if they wanted to, due to their hectic schedules as musicians.

Talking to Angus O'Loughlin and Ash London from Shazam Top 20 on 2DayFM, he continued: ''Yeah, we met each other, we exchanged numbers in the same way that a lot of people in this kind of world do and we spoke occasionally.

''And she's the biggest pop star in the world and I'm in Australia. There's no like, relationship or anything happening. It's just funny how people really, really buy into that.''

Speculation Matt was dating the 'Shake It Off' singer first arose when he wore one of her tour T-shirts while performing with bandmates - Ross MacDonald, Adam Hann and George Daniel - with the blonde beauty returning the favour by sporting his band's tops.

Last month, the 'Blank Space' hitmaker sparked further rumours after she attended one of the band's shows with pal Selena Gomez, and posted a clip online which she captioned with a suggestive line from their hit single 'The City'.

It read: ''Yeah you wanna find love? Then you know where the city is.''
