Chelsea footballer JOHN TERRY has been involved in a drunken row with a clubber and needed his fiancee to pull him away, reports claim.

The tough-tackling England captain had to be held back by fiancee Toni Poole, 24, after a reveller threw a drink over the footballer while he partied at an end-of-season do.

Terry, 26, was involved in the incident at the Paper Club in London's West End, while fellow Chelsea teammates, who had recently lost the league title to champions Manchester United, splashed out huge amounts for champagne at the bar.

A drunken reveller reportedly threw a drink at the centre-back, who attempted to get to the culprit. However, his quick-thinking fiancee pulled him back and used a photo of the couple's one-year-old twins on her mobile phone to distract him.

Witnesses told the Mirror: "Toni was determined he shouldn't react and get into a fight.

"He looked like he was about to explode and the last thing Toni wanted was for him to be involved in a fight."

It's not the first time the Chelsea captain has been in trouble while partying.

In 2001 Terry, along with then teammates FRANK LAMPARD, EIDUR GUDJOHNSEN and JODY MORRIS, were fined by Chelsea for going on a five-hour drinking binge which resulted in them stripping off, swearing and vomiting, in a hotel packed with American tourists the day after the 9/11 attacks.
