No note was found but police statement said she was "found hanging"
The Bollywood actress Jiah Khan has passed away with suicide a distinct possibility – although no note has been found.
Khan was just 25 at the time of death, and a statement from Mumbia’s deputy commissioner of police, Chhering Dorje said "Nafisa Khan, who is known as Jiah Khan, was found hanging by her mother at around 22:45 India time [17:15GMT] ) at her residence on the first floor of Sagar Sangeet [apartment]." He added: "Her body has been taken to the hospital where a post-mortem will be conducted to find the cause of her death.” The actress made her debut in Bollywood in 2007 and has gone on to become a key star in the Indian film industry. Before that, she was born in New York and had grown up in London before moving to Mumbai, the Indian capital.
Tributes have been pouring in for the star over Twitter, from fellow Bollywood peers. Filmmaker Ram Gopal wrote "Never ever seen a debutant actress with more spunk and more spirit than Jiah when I was directing her in Nishabd.” He was joined in his homage by Farah Khan, who commented "Can't register that Jiah is no more... Worked with her in Housefull and she was so beautiful and such a good soul. Too young to go Jiah.” Fellow actress Dia Mirza wrote "RIP Nafisa (Jiah) Khan. You were too young and beautiful…" Khan was believed to be preparing to head to America to work at the time of her death.
