Confusion reigns over Jai Paul 'album' posted online
The highly-feted singer Jai Paul has denounced an album that has been posted online, purporting to be his long-awaited debut album. The tracks were uploaded to Bandcamp and made available to buy, for £7, though there were no clear links to Jai Paul’s record label XL Recordings, which prompted many to question the legitimacy of the tracks. It clearly wasn’t an official release and there was some doubt as to whether the tracks were even all Jai Paul’s.
It now seems as though these are demo versions of the artists’s forthcoming album, that have been uploaded by somebody other than Jai Paul, or anyone associated with his label. On Twitter, he posted a message to say “To confirm: demos on bandcamp were not uploaded by me, this is not my debut album. Please don't buy. Statement to follow later. Thanks, Jai.” Interestingly, this is the first tweet that the singer appears to have posted, though the account is verified and has over 5,000 followers, including Jessie Ware and The Weeknd.
The 16 track album, according to The Guardian, doesn’t contain any song titles, but it does contain two Jai Paul tracks that fans will already be familiar with – ‘BTSTU’ and ‘Jasmine.’
