J.R. will go out with a bang during the second season of the revived Dallas on TNT. Executive producer Cynthia Cidre told TV Guide magazine that the character, played by Larry Hagman, who died last November, will be murdered, with several episodes devoted to the killing. We all felt having J.R. die of natural causes would have been completely inappropriate, not only to the character, but also to Larry Hagman, Cidre told the magazine, adding that she had received approval of the plotline from his close friend and costar Patrick Duffy and also from Hagman's son Preston. Hagman was able to appear in at least five of the season's episodes before his death, the magazine reported, with some of them offering a few scenes that provide unintended closure to J.R.'s tumultuous relationships with [the characters] Sue Ellen and Bobby. And Hagman's death will apparently not see the end of J.R.'s appearances on Dallas. Cidre said that the murder plotline will include one major revelation in J.R.'s will. And Duffy told TV Guide: I'm sure a lot's going to surface that J.R.'s done that none of us ever knew about ... and that will always bring back the image of Larry Hagman. The two-hour season premiere of Dallas is due to air on Monday, Jan. 28.
