Was the notorious Valentines slump to blame for the drop in Community’s ratings last night (February 14, 2013)? Or is there something else amiss with the new series of the show? Last week’s season debut did pretty well, but yesterday’s episode suffered a serious slump in figures. Just 2.7 million tuning in and a rating of 1.1 amongst that all-important 18-49 demographic. The show’s producers will be keeping their fingers tightly crossed until next week and praying that it was simply a case of the Valentines ratings curse striking a particularly hefty blow.

Entertainment Weekly suggest there may be more than just Cupid’s arrow to blame for the dip in viewers though. Many fans of Community seemed to be of the opinion that Dan Harmon was one of the biggest draws of the show and now that the writer’s been fired from the show, it simply isn’t as funny any more. Having said that, Community was by no means the only show to suffer last night’s mass romantic departure from the TV set. Person of Interest was down by three per cent, whilst American Idol, Grey’s Anatomy and Vampire Diaries all hit season lows, as well.

ABC flew in the face of the dreaded Valentine’s Day ratings slip, however, to premiere a new show, Zero Hour. It’s unclear why ABC took such a bold step with the show; they ended up with 6.3 million viewers – a 41 per cent drop from Last Resort’s premiere- the show that took that slot earlier in the season.
