Good Morning America host Robyn Roberts’ leave of absence from the program has been extended indefinitely.

According to TMZ, Roberts’ medical issues have severely weakened her immune system and a return to GMA at this time would be ill-advised. Sources at the show have said that Robyn was expected to come back on as early as January, but it is now becoming clear that this simply won’t be possible. Instead, her actual return might not happen until May at best, but most probably June. This would give the GMA anchor enough time to recover, so that working will not endanger her health. Doctors say that the extended vacation is nothing to worry about and Roberts is right on track with her recovery, it’s just that that recovery is a slow one.

Roberts is certainly not thrilled about the mandatory hiatus, but she realizes it is the only option at this point. At least she can enjoy all of those good wishes and get well cards. Meanwhile, the anticipation for Robyn’s return might actually do good things for Good Morning America’s falling ratings, as the buildup to the beloved anchor’s return is expected to draw in higher numbers of viewers. How did that saying go again? Something about clouds and silver linings...
