In among ALL the controversy surrounding the reboot of Ghostbusters, there was an actual film and it turned out that it wasn’t that bad at all. And now, as angry fanboys continue to rage and people refuse to get over the fact the remake is a cast of women, Sony has confirmed Ghostbusters 2.

The film was hugely hyped before its actual release - largely because of the issue of gender - but Sony sat on its hedges and director Paul Feig said the movie would need to make $500million before anyone important sat up and took notice.

Well, the flick took $46million on its opening US weekend and, while that may not be as good as hoped, it seems it’s good enough to warrant a second go at the franchise.

As WhatCulture reported, Sony chief Rory Bruer said: "I expect Ghostbusters to become an important brand and franchise.

"While nothing has been officially announced yet, there’s no doubt in my mind it will happen."

Paul Feig and his cast of women, Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon, have been through rough times with the film and it became the most disliked trailer on YouTube thanks to a campaign of hate by original film fans.

However, the movie has gained 73 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes and many reviewers have spoken positively about the film with Jonathan Pile from Empire commenting: "It’s almost as if it never mattered that the four main characters were women. Strange that."
