SPOILER ALERT! George R.R. Martin says that a plotline for his upcoming novel will involve a character who's died in 'Game Of Thrones'.
Author George R.R. Martin has revealed that he’s decided to include a major plot divergence in his new novel ‘The Winds of Winter’ that won’t be able to happen in ‘Game Of Thrones’, because the character in question has already been killed off in the TV adaptation.
In a new interview with IGN, Martin admitted that he’d been pondering whether to include the plot twist for some time. “I have decided to do it,” he revealed. “Will you know it? I don’t know. It is fairly obvious because it is something that involves a couple of characters, one of which is dead on the show, and not dead in the books. So the show can’t do it, unfortunately, because they have killed someone I have not killed.”
George R.R. Martin has revealed there'll be a plot twist in his sixth novel
Early in January, Martin confirmed that he had missed the December 31st deadline that would have allowed the sixth novel in his fantasy series to be published before the sixth season of ‘Game of Thrones’ arrives on HBO in April.
However, many previous stories have been published in the past of the TV series heading in a different direction from Martin’s novels, with the author in many cases not having the final say over the plotlines of ‘Game of Thrones’.

Back in the new interview, Martin admitted that the divergences between the plots of the novels and TV series had gotten so numerous that most further twists involving dead characters wouldn’t matter very much.
“At this point there are like 15 characters who are dead on the show who are still alive on the books… …I get all this stuff about being bloody-minded but [‘GoT’ showrunners] David [Benioff] and Dan [DB Weiss] are bloodier than I am!”
Previously, he has told fans the same thing ahead of the return of ‘Game of Thrones’, which debuts on April 24th. “Some of the ‘spoilers’ you may encounter in season six may not be spoilers at all… because the show and the books have diverged, and will continue to do so.”
